Cornish Gravel Garden

a garden without a Traditional LAwn.

This gravel garden comes alive at various stages throughout the year, as much for their insect life as the changing plants that bring colour throughout the seasons. Exotic palms, perennials and ornamental grasses blend the garden to its surroundings. Such plants house insects that create an evolutionary soundscape all year round. Evergreen hedges were added for privacy, creating a juxtaposition between formal and informal and frame the garden at the same time. I am always amazed by the abundance of wildlife in this garden, especially as my design did not include a traditional lawn.
